Mesothelioma is one of the most difficult types of tumour to treat, and for most people the first inkling that they have an illness is when they are rushed into an emergency medical room with acute breathing difficulties.

 

Around half of people diagnosed with the disease die within a year. Only around one in ten survive for more than five years.
