MYTHBUSTER QUIZ: FAKE OR FOR REAL?

REAL

True, but the level of exposure would most probably be quite low and unlikely to result in any important risk.

There was an asbestos mine on Corsica, which closed in the 1960s. Asbestos and related mineral fibres can be found in soil in some areas from Afghanistan through Greece to Italy and Corsica. The most common fibre types found are tremolite and chrysotile. There have been reports of an increased prevalence of mesothelioma among non-occupationally exposed populations in Turkey, Cyprus, parts of Greece, and Northeast Corsica. This is, however, from lifetime exposure.
