Yes, respirators are generally effective at reducing exposure to asbestos, especially the full-face positive pressure respirators that are used by asbestos removal workers. With care to minimise the amount of asbestos generated during the work, a full-face respirator should be able to at least reduce exposure below the current exposure limit (0.1 fibres/ml).
